Movie of the Week (review)
I recently watched the movie "The Big Lebowski" and if I spelled that wrong, I don't really care. I usually pride myself in my willingness to spell check every little thing I do, but this movie does NOT deserve my attention to detail. I laughed a few times, sure, but I think I learned the true meaning of "chuckling" the further into this moveie I got. Let me just preface this by saying: I do not chuckle. Ever. And I really wish I never knew what a "chuckle" sounded like coming out of my moouth. I understand that the goal of the movie was to be one of those "nothing really happens" kind of movies. Or maybe that it wanted its audience to either feel high or want to be high, but it just was not my style. I dind't really care for any character, and I'm sure I could have stopped watching halfway through the movie and not felt like I missed anything at all. Needless to say, the movie was less than satisfactory.
Currently Watching (review)
Although I haven't finished the show just yet, my boyfried and I have recently started watching "The Walking Dead," and I have to admit, at first I was pretty uninterested. Even though the show did a great job of hooking me in right away, I began losing interest throughout the second season and the third did little to amend that.
I thought the first season was so good (albeit pretty predictable) and I was excited to keep watching. Although I appreciated that the second season tried to move away from having the zombies be the only source of antagonism, I didn't love how the human-on-human conflicts manifested throughout the plot. Shane was a good villain, but his arc went on for too long and by the end of the season I felt little to nothing about his death. If anything, his character just annoyed me.
Speaking of annoying characters, I could not stand Lori. There were definitely moments where I sympathized with her and wanted her to succeed, but I honestly couldn't figure out her role. Her relationship with Shane was odd and made me fel weird ESPECIALLY after he SA'd her at the CBC. I couldn't understand why she kept giving chances after everything he did AND after, not only noticing, but experiencing his aggressive behavior. Like, hello?! How was Dale the only one that clocked those redflags right away?
Anyways, season 3 didn't really offer me much either. The best things that came out of this season were Michonne, more screen time for Dale, and Hershel's man-bun. The Governor was a terrible vilain, Andrea pissed me off every time she was on screen, and building up the "big fight" only for it to be a little show-down was disappointing but soooo not surprising. Again, I thought the season was far too predictable and the human villain was more annoying than threatening. I want to see some more human-human or human-environment conflicts, but I need it to be so much more convincing.
All this aside, we just stared the fourth season and I can already tell that I'm gonna like this. I love the introduction of a virus into the plot, I think there are so many interesting ways to take this. And even though I'm not exaclty ecstatic about this, I am waiting for the Governor to return to see how they play out his character.
